7 WEBSITES Where to Sell YOUR Crochet Patterns
Share
Are you a crochet pattern designer looking to share your creations with the world? Me too!
Let me tell you - there are plenty of online platforms where you can sell your unique patterns and connect with fellow crocheters! I have tried lots of platforms and am ready to come back, and share my findings with YOU!
Let's explore some of the best websites to sell your crochet patterns! (And all of my thoughts and experiences with these sites!
1. Etsy
Etsy is a really popular online marketplace known mostly for handmade items! Setting up a shop on Etsy is super easy, and etsy has a large audience already - which you can become exposed to by setting up shop there!
Pros:
- Etsy is great, because the fees to start are very low ($0.20 per listing) and you only are charged a percentage of what you sell (so if you aren't selling anything - you are not loosing money!).
- Large Audience - lots of people search for crochet patterns on etsy!
- Easy to set up - no new website building involved!
Cons:
- You will need to drive you own traffic to Etsy too! Etsy will drive traffic to your shop more, if you are also bringing an audience to your shop! It seems to have an algorithm that rewards those who bring in a majority of their own traffic.
- Fees can be as high on the items that you sell.
- Not much customization is possible for your crochet pattern shop. If you are someone who loves to design their own layout - etsy doesn't really allow for that!
- You have little control over what happens to your shop - if something happens to Etsy your audience and platform will be lost! Whereas, if you run your own website, then you OWN that site. Nothing can happen to it, and no one can shut it down!
2. Ravelry
Ravelry gives this warm, community feel - among the crafters!
It is a more niche site with only fiber arts patterns - nothing else! You can sell your patterns directly to fellow yarn enthusiasts and connect with a supportive community of crafters.
Pros:
- Less fees!
- Reaches specifically crocheters searching for patterns!
- Has really specific pattern and yarn classifications
- You can add your pattern testers and their creations!
Cons:
- Even less creative control over your shop than Etsy.
- Doesn't have very good analytics - sometimes you want to find out how someone found your pattern - but cant :(
- Lots of competition - because its such a niche site!
- Layout/Website is a bit outdated :(
3. LoveCrafts
LoveCrafts is a crafting marketplace that sells mostly yarn and craft supplies! BUT it allows you to sell your crochet patterns! It's a great platform to reach a wide audience of crafters looking for new projects (and the yarn to make them!)
Pros:
- You reaching a different audience!
- Such an EASY way to upload your patterns directly from Ravelry!
Cons:
- Even less creative control over your shop than Etsy.
- The fees are a bit unclear?
4. Ribblr
Ribblr is a brand NEW Website to sell your crochet patterns!
I've heard great reviews about this platform - but haven't had a chance to try it myself yet!
Pros:
- Again, super niche in the fiber arts!
- You can go line by line when making working through a pattern.
- Brand new!
Cons:
- Difficult to transfer already existing patterns into this platform - I struggled inputting a pdf in there (and then gave up haha!)
5. KnitPicks
For our 5th website where you can sell your crochet patterns - we have KnitPicks!
So this one is a bit different - you are not setting up your own shop on this site! You can submit your design to KnitPicks and they will decide where to approve it or not!
Pros:
- A completely different audience from all the other sites
- No need to set up your own shop!
Cons:
- They have to approve your design - so this might be a lengthy process!
- You must use KnitPicks Yarn to create your design.
- Compensation is a bit unclear.
6. Ko-Fi
The 6th website where you can sell your own crochet pattern - it is Ko-Fi!
This is almost an alternative to etsy - also focusing on handmade goods! I have tried this one myself - but found that it drove zero traffic to my store unfortunately :(
Pros:
- Less fees than etsy!
- Allows you to show off more of the creative process, make posts, share things (almost like a mix between social media and etsy!)
- Really easy set up!
Cons:
- From my experience - there wasn't much organic traffic.
7. Your Own Website!
Lucky #7 Website for where you can sell your crochet patterns - is your OWN Website! Mine is of course - Crochet With Cookie!
Building your own website can be sooo rewarding - but can be a ton of work!
If you have an existing audience that you can guide towards purchasing products on your site - then this really might be the best way to go for the lowest fees!
You can use lots of different platforms to build your site - I am using Shopify to build THIS site to sell my own crochet patterns! :)
Pros:
- COMPLETELY customizable!
- Yours - you own it! It can't go down if the company where you hosted your shop goes down.
- There are a ton of other marketing tools available to you - such as email marketing!
- Lots of sales channels! It can connect to Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc!
Cons:
- Time consuming at the start - but its simple to add more products after you have already made the site.
- Monthly fees
- You have to drive traffic!
- Some parts of running your own site can definitely be a steep learning curve!
I hope that you have learned about at least ONE new Website where you can sell your crochet patterns from this post!
