10 TIPS On How to Grow Your Crochet Instagram FROM ZERO
Share
Are you looking to expand your crochet business on Instagram but not sure where to start? Here are 10 expert tips to help you grow your crochet Instagram from zero to hero (that I used myself to grow my following to over 60k!)!
1. Define Your Niche!
You hear everyone say this... and they're right! Niche down!
Don't just make a "crochet account", make it more specific! Are you going to make a crochet account geared directly towards small crochet business owners? Is it going to be making amigurumi food animals? Is it size-inclusive festival clothing patterns?
Here are some ideas:
- Amigurumi Creations
- Vintage-Inspired Designs
- Tunisian Crochet
- Crochet Jewelry
- Crochet for Charity
- Miniature Crochet
- Crochet for Pets
- Crochet Home Decor
- Crochet for Babies
- Crochet Stitch Samplers
When you niche down, your audience can clearly see what to expect from you! The people that choose to follow you are doing so because your niche matches what they are interested in! They know that they will resonate with your content because they can clearly SEE what your content will be about! You are predictable - and this is good!!
2. Quality Over Quantity
Focus on posting high-quality photos and reels!
Instagram is a VISUAL platform - make sure that you have high quality visuals for your audience! Your photos should be clear, taken in natural light, and free from HEAVY edits.
Also, make sure that your photos showcase exactly what you want them to! If you're showing an article of clothing, you could crop your face out, to make sure that the focal point is the clothing! If showing amigurumi, make sure that its the focal point - my eye should go directly to your work!
(Neither of these are particularly strong... can you spot what's wrong with both of them?)
3. Engage with OTHER Crocheters!
After you have chosen a niche, and have posted a few things to show that niche... now you are ready to engage with others and start building your follower list!
- Look for other crocheters and crochet accounts that inspire you, follow them and genuinely engage with their content. Don't spam like, but if there is something that they created that you LOVE - leave a genuine comment!
4. Post Consistently
It's okay not to post every single day - BUT it is important to set a schedule and stick to it!
Again... its all about making sure that your followers know what to expect from you!
5. Apply for Pattern Tests!
Participating in a pattern test is a GREAT way to get to know more people in the Instagram crochet community!
You get to meet new people, build connections, and get your account out there a bit more!
You'll get more engagement from the other people in your group, and the designer will share your posts/creation on their account too (for extra exposure!).
6. Utilize ALL of Instagram's Features!
Post Stories, Reels, Carousels!
Make sure that you use the highlights section to save great stories!
7. Share Behind-the-Scenes Content
Give your followers a glimpse into your creative process by sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos of your crochet projects.
Don't just post completed works.... show your followers that you are a real person, and it takes TIME to create our crochet projects!
8. Analyze Your Insights
Taking a look at insights can be sooo helpful! Use that information to see what kind of content your audience enjoys the most .... and make more of that content!
If you notice that one reel got more views/likes/watch time than your other ones, analyze why you think that might be! And then make more, just like that!
9. Cross-Promote Your Content on Other Platforms
I recommend also starting a facebook account and linking the two! This will allow every instagram post to be cross-posted on facebook - and therefore grow your following on there too!
Kill two birds with one stone!
10. Be Patient and Persistent!
Keep on posting, engaging and logging on every day! It does take some time, but the more you keep going the more you'll learn what works for you! AND.... the crochet community is so lovely and so supportive to become a part of! Don't be afraid to dive in headfirst, the water's warm and the crocheters are friendly!
I hope that you have enjoyed this post and that you learned something to help you get started on your Crochet Instagram Journey!! And... if you enjoyed this post, please comment and share :)
